Greetings!
People often ask me (and usually with a worried look) how things are going with the business. I suppose because we are inundated with bad news about the economy, and we therefore assume most people will behave fearfully and shy away from ethical purchasing, that folks assume we are struggling. Well, the recession was a challenge, but I'm happy to report that we've been growing since we downsized the retail space to 2300sf, and that we seem to be on track for double digit sales growth for 2012. For that I thank you all, our Home Green Homies, who understand and appreciate what we are doing and why. I suspect that some of that growth is due to our addition of new product lines in the past year (e.g. Green Sleep mattresses, Sundancer Designs clothing, wool dryer balls, several kinds of glass drink bottles, solar ovens, new items in Natural Pet and organic Personal Care, and more) as well as our efforts to keep more colors and styles in stock on our existing lines (e.g. organic cotton bath towels & robes, lots of new book titles). Some of the growth is no doubt due to the efforts of our fabulously friendly and enthusiastic staff. Perhaps we're also reaching a critical mass of fans who are promoting us by word-of-mouth? I'd like to hear your thoughts on what we're doing well and what we could do even better as we approach our 5th birthday (this coming August) - drop me an email at <joe@homegreenhome.com>.
Thanks!
-Joe

There will be so many fabulous bands and goings on this weekend at Ithaca Festival, that you could be forgiven for forgetting to stop in and check out what's new at HGH. But that would be unwise. To help prevent such tragic errors, we'll be collecting your names on scraps of paper (reused, natch!) for a Great Green Giveaway drawing. The prizes are so fab, we imagine Gaia herself may stop in to fill out an entry...

1st Prize: Natural Latex Topper of your size choice by WJ Southard

2nd Prize: Set of Coyuchi organic sheets (ivory, any size)

3rd Prize: Two pillows of your choice

4th Prize: Book of your choice

5th Prize: ChicoBag Vita or Sling, color of your choice

Entries will be accepted this Thursday through Sunday during store hours. Drawing will be held on Monday June 4. Remember to leave your phone # or email so we can notify you! No purchase necessary to participate, but entries must be made in person. One entry per participant.

"It really boils down to this: that all life is interrelated. We are all caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied into a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. We are made to live together because of the interrelated structure of reality. Did you ever stop to think that you can't leave for your job in the morning without being dependent on most of the world? You get up in the morning and go to the bathroom and reach over for the sponge, and that's handed to you by a Pacific islander. You reach for a bar of soap, and that's given to you at the hands of a Frenchman. And then you go into the kitchen to drink your coffee for the morning, and that's poured into your cup by a South American. And maybe you want tea: that's poured into your cup by a Chinese. Or maybe you're desirous of having cocoa for breakfast, and that's poured into your cup by a West African. And then you reach over for your toast, and that's given to you at the hands of an English-speaking farmer, not to mention the baker. And before you finish eating breakfast in the morning, you've depended on more than half of the world. This is the way our universe is structured, this is its interrelated quality. We aren't going to have peace on earth until we recognize this basic fact of the interrelated structure of all reality."

Ever have more family or friends visiting Ithaca than you can accommodate? Or you don't live in Ithaca, but would love an additional excuse to come visit? If you love the atmosphere and products at HGH, you'll feel right at home in The Swallow's Nest, a new bed & breakfast located in my home in EcoVillage at Ithaca. Fully outfitted with organic furnishings (we get a discount at HGH) and stocked with local and organic breakfast foods, the Swallow's Nest is a new resource that we thought you should know about.

Thinking about buying a latex mattress, but really want to try one overnight before committing? Spend a night at Swallow's Nest, and HGH will credit you back the cost of a night's stay if you decide to purchase a mattress. We have a queen Cazenovian Pillowtop mattress, and a double 8" organic cotton & wool futon for you to blissfully dream upon. Follow that up with homemade jam on toasted bread from Wide Awake Bakery and some fresh eggs from our backyard chickens, and you may want to discuss monthly rates!

See you at Ithaca Fest!

Aloha,
Joe & HGH Staff
