Here it is, mid-winter already, the days getting noticeably longer, and even though Punxsutawney Phil has seen his shadow, we're busy planning for spring, when the Commons and other local ecosystems will fully awaken. Now's a great time to pore over seed catalogs and plan for luscious summer veggies, fruits, and flowers. Check out our upcoming series on organic gardening, and look for new composting supplies, gardening books, and other new goodies in the store. We're trying to take advantage of the quieter winter days to start a variety of sustainable business seeds (look for a new web store in the coming months), and feeling the hope that the approach of spring perennially brings...

New Product: Clothes Drying Racks

drying racks photo
We searched for quite awhile to find a supplier we felt good about. These sturdy folding racks are hand-made in Maine from local Maine woods. The smaller version can fit into a bathtub to conserve space in a small apartment, and the large one is capacious enough to dry a full load of towels and blue jeans.

I love drying racks for several reasons - they're a visible reminder to think low-tech first when searching for sustainable solutions, and they reduce your use of electric and gas dryers and their associated carbon footprint. They also work great in the typically dry indoor air of winter, while raising humidity and improving comfort.
