News and ideas for your green home
Greetings!
April is the month of warmer weather (although the snow flurries outside today say otherwise), the opening of the Ithaca Farmers' Market and Earth Day.  This is the month we eager Ithacans venture outdoors to begin turning our gardens and enjoy the natural splendor that surrounds us.  As you begin spending more time outdoors, take time to appreciate the gifts that Mother Nature offers us.  Contemplate your role in environmental stewardship and what new steps you might take this year.  As always, we look forward to seeing you!

Introducing Green Planet Paints
Meet our suppliers
Clay paints photoFor many of our customers, Green Planet Paints needs no introduction.  It is one of the most popular products we sell.  For those of you not yet familiar with this product, Green Planet Paints is a small, socially responsible company that manufactures a quality product.  They believe that simplicity is the best way to approach paint.  They use minimal ingredients (clay, marble, titanium dioxide, soy resin, a phosphate salt, cellulose, mineral pigments and small amounts of dispersing aids and preservatives) that have been carefully selected to have minimal environmental impact.  Green Planet Paints were used to cover the walls and ceiling in our store.  Our painter, Tim Ciaschi, was thrilled with the paint and said that is was the first big job he'd ever completed without getting a headache - a powerful endorsement for using safe & healthy products.  A new shipment will be arriving at the store soon.

Thinking Green
Happy Earth Day!
NASA Earth from space image ". .  on April 22, 1970, Earth Day was held, one of the most remarkable happenings in the history of democracy. ."
-American Heritage Magazine, October 1993

Thirty eight years later, Earth Day is stronger than ever.  Ithaca celebrates Earth Day on Sunday, April 27 at the Ithaca Farmers' Market Pavillion.  Home Green Home will be there as will many other inspiring exhibitors.  There are always great activities for the kids, so this is an event that people of all ages can enjoy.  For more Earth Day inspiration, please read the sermon by Ann Lovejoy reprinted in Yes! Magazine (our favorite magazine by the way - and now on sale at HGH!).

Green Book Group
Join our new book discussion group!
Book front cover photoSpring has sprung and so has Home Green Home's new book group!  Join us as we awake from hibernation and become inspired by the edible prospects of the long warm days ahead of us.  During the months of April and May, we will read and discuss Barbara Kingsolver's Animal, Vegetable, Miracle:  A Year of Food Life.
It's time to start thinking about sowing our gardens, supporting local agriculture and nourishing our bodies with local and organic foods.  Kingsolver's "memoir, part journalistic investigation, and vivid imagery makes a passionate case for putting the kitchen back at the center of family life and diversified farms at the center of the American diet."

Book group meeting dates:

Tuesday, April 22, 5-6:30p (1st half)
Wednesday, May 21, 5-6:30p (2nd half)
Both sessions will be held at the store.
Contact Becca to register or for more information.
The book is available for sale at Home Green Home.
